Skunks cause physical damage to your property and pose serious health risks.
Odor Contamination
Skunk spray isn't just annoying; it's a sulfur-based oil that permeates porous materials (wood, insulation, drywall). If a skunk sprays under your HVAC intake, the smell can ruin furniture and clothes inside.
Burrowing Damage
Like groundhogs, skunks are powerful diggers. They excavate dens under concrete porches, decks, and sheds, potentially causing foundation settling and cracking.
Rabies Vector
In Kentucky, skunks are one of the primary carriers of the rabies virus. Their slow, waddling behavior makes them easy targets for curious dogs, putting your pets at significant risk.
The "No-Spray" Removal Process
Many homeowners are afraid to call a pro because they fear the trapping process will cause the skunk to spray. We use specialized techniques to prevent this.
- Visual Barriers:
We use solid-walled traps or covers. If the skunk cannot see the trapper, it does not feel threatened and will not spray.
- Exclusion Fencing:
Once the animal is gone, we dig a trench around the deck or shed and install steel mesh to prevent future burrowing.
- Odor Control:
If a skunk has already sprayed under your house, we can fog the crawlspace with enzyme-based neutralizers to eliminate the smell.
Identifying Skunk Damage
- • Small holes in lawn: Cone-shaped holes (3-4 inches) where they dig for grubs.
- • Faint musky smell: A persistent, low-level odor near the foundation.
- • 5-toed tracks: Distinctive claw marks visible in mud.
Skunk Removal Pricing
Trapping Fee (Flat Rate)
This covers the setup, monitoring, and safe removal of the skunk. We use specialized traps to minimize spraying risk.
Exclusion Quote (Free)
To stop them from coming back, we need to seal under the deck or porch. We measure the perimeter and give you a free price for trenching and screening.
Deodorization (Optional)
If your home reeks, we offer an add-on service to fog the crawlspace. This is separate from the removal fee.
Skunk Removal FAQ
My dog got sprayed. What do I do?
Forget tomato juice (it doesn't work). Mix 1 quart hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda, and 1 tsp liquid dish soap. Wash the dog immediately. Warning: Do not store this mixture in a closed bottle; it can explode.
Can skunks climb fences?
Skunks are poor climbers compared to raccoons, but they can climb chain-link fences if motivated. However, they prefer to dig under obstacles.
What happens to the skunk?
We follow all Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife regulations regarding the trapping and relocation or euthanasia of nuisance wildlife, prioritizing safety and humane treatment.
